Understanding it
When worry won’t switch off
Everyone feels anxious sometimes. It becomes something worth working on when worry is hard to turn off, shows up in your body, or starts shaping your choices: what you avoid, how you sleep, and how you show up with the people you love.
Anxiety often makes more sense once you understand where it comes from. Earlier experiences, family patterns, and environments that taught you to stay on guard can all leave your mind and body working overtime.
You don’t need a diagnosis to start. If anxiety is getting in the way, that’s reason enough.
You might be here because…
- Your mind races, especially at night
- Worry jumps from one thing to the next
- You’ve had panic attacks, or fear having one
- Social situations leave you drained or on edge
- Your body carries it: a tight chest, racing heart, or upset stomach
- You’ve started avoiding things you want to do
How we’ll work together
Steadier, step by step
Every story is different, so our work is shaped around you. Here’s how my approach fits this work.
-
Understand where it comes from
We’ll gently explore how past experiences and patterns keep you on alert, so the anxiety starts to make sense instead of feeling random.
-
Calm, in your body
Mindfulness and body awareness help you notice anxiety early and find tools that settle your body, not just your thoughts.
-
At your pace
You decide what we focus on. There’s no pressure to push through anything before you’re ready.
-
The bigger picture
Anxiety often runs through families and relationships. We’ll look at the patterns you learned, and practice boundaries that protect your peace.
Common questions
Questions people often ask
How do I know if my anxiety is bad enough for counseling?
You don’t need to reach a certain point first. If worry, panic, or stress is getting in the way of your sleep, work, relationships, or simply enjoying your life, that’s a good reason to reach out.
Do you prescribe medication?
No. As a counselor, I don’t prescribe medication. If you’re wondering whether medication could help, your primary care doctor or a psychiatric provider is the right place to ask, and counseling can go hand in hand with that care.
What happens in a session?
We talk about what’s been going on, at a pace that feels okay. Over time we look at where the anxiety comes from and practice tools, like mindfulness and grounding, that you can use between sessions.
Can you help with panic attacks?
Yes. Panic attacks are frightening, and they often make more sense once we understand what sets them off. We’ll work on that, and practice ways to ride out the wave and calm your body.
Can we meet online if anxiety makes it hard to leave the house?
Yes. I offer secure video sessions for anyone located in Arkansas, so you can meet from somewhere that feels comfortable. In-person sessions at the Cozy Cottage in downtown Bentonville are available too.
