My approach
Therapy shaped around you
Every person and every story is different, so I don’t use a one-size-fits-all method. My work draws on three well-established approaches, woven together with mindfulness and body awareness.
Person-centered therapy
You’re the expert on your own life
Person-centered therapy, first developed by psychologist Carl Rogers, rests on a simple belief: you already hold a lot of wisdom about your own life, and you grow best in a relationship where you feel safe, accepted, and truly heard.
So I won’t tell you who to be or what to believe. I’ll bring warmth, honesty, and acceptance without judgment, and follow your lead as you explore what you feel, what you need, and what you want.
This can feel especially freeing if you come from a family, faith, or community where other people decided what you should think and feel.
In our sessions
- You set the pace and choose what we talk about
- I listen closely and reflect back what I hear, without judgment
- There’s room for every feeling, including the complicated ones
- You build trust in your own voice and your own choices
Psychodynamic therapy
Understanding the patterns beneath the surface
Psychodynamic therapy looks at how earlier experiences and relationships shape the way you feel, react, and relate to people today, often in ways that aren’t obvious at first.
Together we notice the patterns that keep showing up: in your relationships, in your reactions, even in the way you talk to yourself. As they come into view, they start to make sense, and you get more room to respond in new ways.
In our sessions
- We gently explore your history and how it connects to the present
- We notice patterns that repeat in your feelings, relationships, and reactions
- We pay attention to what comes up between us in session, too
- Understanding grows over time, at a pace that feels okay
Family systems therapy
Seeing your story in the bigger picture
Family systems therapy, rooted in the work of psychiatrist Murray Bowen, sees each of us as part of a larger emotional system: the family we grew up in and the relationships we’re in now. The roles we played, the unspoken rules, and the patterns passed down through generations all shape who we become.
We use this lens one-on-one. You don’t need to bring anyone with you: as you understand the system, you can change your part in it, set kinder boundaries, and stay connected to the people you love without losing yourself.
I work with individuals only, so I don’t offer family or couples sessions.
In our sessions
- We map the roles, rules, and patterns in your family
- We look at what’s been passed down through generations
- We practice boundaries that protect your peace
- You learn to stay yourself while staying connected
Woven through it all
Mind, body, and your own pace
Mindfulness and body awareness
Drawing on my background in nursing, I weave in mindfulness and body awareness, so you can notice what you’re feeling and build tools for feeling more grounded. More about me.
You don’t have to choose
You don’t need to know which approach you want, or anything about therapy at all. We’ll find what helps, together. The free consultation is a great place to ask questions.
