Understanding it

When rest stops working

Stress is how your mind and body rise to meet a challenge. Burnout is what can happen when the challenge never lets up: when work, caregiving, school, or holding everything together has drained you for so long that rest doesn’t seem to help anymore.

It can look like exhaustion, irritability, dread on Sunday nights, or feeling numb or cynical about things you used to care about.

Burnout often has roots beyond the to-do list: patterns like people pleasing or perfectionism, or a family role as the one who keeps everything running. Understanding those roots is often where real change begins.

You might be here because…

  • You’re exhausted, even after a weekend or a vacation
  • You dread work, or feel numb about things you used to care about
  • You’re irritable, short-tempered, or always on edge
  • Your body carries it: headaches, tension, or trouble sleeping
  • You’re the one everyone leans on, and there’s nothing left for you
  • You can’t remember the last time you felt rested

How we’ll work together

Refilling the tank

Every story is different, so our work is shaped around you. Here’s how my approach fits this work.

  • Room to set it down

In session, you don’t have to hold it all together. You set the pace and choose what we focus on.

  • Look at the patterns

People pleasing, perfectionism, and old family roles can keep you running on empty. We’ll explore where they come from.

  • Recharge your body

Mindfulness and body awareness help you notice stress building, and find ways to slow down and recover.

  • Boundaries that hold

We’ll look at the roles you play at work and at home, and practice boundaries that protect your energy.

Common questions

Questions people often ask

What’s the difference between stress and burnout?

Stress usually feels like too much: too many demands, too little time. Burnout often feels like too little: too little energy, motivation, or care left. Both deserve support, and you don’t need to know which one you have to start.

Can counseling help if I can’t change my job right now?

Yes. Counseling isn’t about telling you to quit. We focus on what’s within reach: your boundaries, how you recover, the patterns that keep you overextended, and what you want next, on your own timeline.

I’m a caregiver. Is this for me too?

Yes. Caring for a child, a parent, a partner, or a community can be just as draining as any job, and caregivers often put themselves last. There’s room here for you, too.

What if stress is affecting my sleep or health?

Stress often shows up in the body, and counseling can help with how you notice and respond to it. It’s also worth checking in with your doctor about physical symptoms, so you have support on both fronts.

Do you offer online sessions?

Yes. I offer secure video sessions for anyone located in Arkansas, which can make counseling easier to fit into a full schedule. In-person sessions at the Cozy Cottage in downtown Bentonville are available too. If you live outside Arkansas, ask about coaching by video.
